How long does it take to get a disability decision in South Carolina?
How long does it take to get a disability decision in South Carolina? According to the social security administration, you should expect to receive a decison on a disability case in 90 to 120 days.
Can you speed this time frame up? Not strictly speaking. However, there are a number of factors that, by themselves, may contribute to you receiving a slower decision. And by addressing these factors you may be able to get your decison quicker.
1. If the social security administration attempts to contact you, whether by phone or by sending a call-in letter, respond immediately. Typically, when it comes to disability examiners (the individuals who actually make the decision on your case), a call-in letter is only sent after an attempt to call you has failed. But however they attempt to reach you, always respond immediately. You simply don't need additional delays on your case.
2. If you get scheduled for a social security medical exam, go to the appointment. Missing the appointment will mean that it will have to be rescheduled and this fact alone can add weeks of processing to your disability claim. And refusing to go can mean a denial based on a failure to cooperate.
3. When you apply for disability, provide social security will very detailed information regarding your medical treatment. This includes listing your doctors names, the names of the places at which you've been seen, their contact information, and the dates of treatment. The wait for medical records is the chief obstacle to getting a Social Security Disability or SSI claim processed. And if you don't provide the necessary information on your disability application, it only makes the job much harder for a disability examiner.
