SSI benefits in Kentucky
If you apply for disability in Kentucky or any state (the system is federal and standardized), and are subsequently awarded disability benefits from SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance), then the amount you will receive will be based on your insured status for title II (Social Security) benefits and how much you have earned and paid into the system via fica taxes. If you are awarded SSI disability benefits, then you may receive whatever happens to be the current maximum monthly SSI benefit. The current amount can be found here: SSI monthly benefit amount.
The question, of course, will be whether or not a person will actually receive the maximum amount that the SSI program currently pays out. That maximum SSI amount can be mediated or affected by several factors. If you are married, and your spouse has income, this can reduce your SSI benefit. If you share a home with other individuals, SSA may take into consideration how household expenses are apportioned between the various members of the household and this can have a reducing effect on the SSI maximum a person may receive.
Other factors include assets, or resources. If a person receiving SSI has assets, they cannot have more than $2000 in countable assets. If they are married, the asset, or resource, maximum is $3000.
