How much fraud is there in Social Security Disability?   The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has reported that there is actually very little fraud in the system. Fraud exists in everything. But in the SSD program, the percentage is low. That's because it is difficult to game the system and because most individuals apply because they have significant,real medical problems. The rate of approval at the application level is 23 percent. That's a 77 denial rate. The rate of approval at the reconsideration level is 10 percent, which is a 90 percent denial rate. It is a very tough system and I have personally seen people die while waiting on their benefits.
