Collecting SSI Disability, marriage, and work
Hello,
I am currently collecting SSI benefits and am planning to return to work in the near future. I am also planning to get married in December, and as a result of both of these things intend to request that my benefits be ended.
My question is, if my disability benefits are ended right away, and I am married shortly afterward, how will this affect our tax return if we file jointly? I have no other income at the moment beyond SSI. Thank you for your time.
I do not think your SSI disability benefits should cause a problem with the IRS. If it is SSI it is need based therefore not likely to be taxable. I would contact the IRS and run it by a representative to make sure.
